Policies
We work hard every day to make life of our clients better and happier
  • Screening
Buying a kitten, you get a friend and a companion for you and your family for many years. Our cattery looks for educated and reliable owners for our kittens. Be ready to be asked about your previous and current pets, your family situation and your knowledge about raising cats. At the same time, we understand the needs and questions of first-time cat owners and are happy to provide information to help them.

We want to make sure you will take good care of the cat and will give it the best home. Feel free to ask questions about our cattery, about the breed and anything what you are curious about. We prefer to stay in touch with our customers and will be happy to provide you an informational support for years to come.
  • Contracts
All kitten and cat buyers are required to sign a sales contract. Please review the main terms of this contract:

    PAYMENT
The first payment for the kitten of $700 is to be made via e-transfer. The remaining balance is payable in cash only at the time of pickup. Other forms of payment are not accepted. This payment will be confirmed in a Kitten Transfer Acceptance Form signed by both parties at pickup, serving as official proof that the full amount has been received.
The only exception is when shipping a kitten by air cargo.

    “AS IS” SALE
The kitten is sold “AS IS”. At the time of transfer, the kitten will be accompanied by a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian no more than 10 days prior to the transfer of the kitten to the buyer. Seller excludes all implied warranties under the Sale of Goods Act (Alberta), including merchantable quality and fitness for a particular purpose.

    72-HOUR RETURN WINDOW (EXCLUSIVE REMEDY)
Buyer’s only options if any issue is found:
    • Return the kitten within 72 hours of transfer for full refund, or
    • Replacement with another kitten of equal value (Seller’s choice).
The delivery of the Kitten is managed and paid by Buyer. After 72 hours, all claims are permanently waived.

    ASSUMPTION OF ALL RISKS
At the time of sale, the kitten has been examined by a licensed veterinarian and is believed to be healthy. Upon transfer to the Buyer, the Seller is no longer responsible for any medical conditions that may arise, including genetic, congenital, developmental, or infectious issues. All future veterinary care and associated costs are the sole responsibility of the Buyer.

    SPAYING AND NEUTERING
All male kittens are castrated by the breeder prior to transfer to the new owner. Female kittens are transferred unspayed and must be spayed by the new owner no later than 9 months of age.
Early spaying of females before moving to the new home is not performed, as the majority of veterinary clinics in Calgary do not perform such surgeries on cats before 6 months of age due to anesthesia safety considerations and the physiological development of females.

    HEALTH AFTER TRANSFER
The Buyer is responsible for 100% of veterinary expenses after the 72 hours of transfer window. Routine wellness exams, vaccinations, elective tests, or optional health checks performed at any time are the Buyer’s responsibility and are not reimbursed by the Seller.
The Seller is responsible only in the rare case where a congenital or pre-existing condition — confirmed in writing by a licensed veterinarian — is diagnosed during the 72-hour period.

    TRIAL PET INSURANCE
Each kitten also comes with a complimentary 6-week trial insurance policy through Petsecure.

What does the Insurance trial include?
    • 6 weeks of coverage for 80% of eligible vet fees, up to a limit of $500
    • Coverage for accidents and illnesses, including exam fees and taxes
    • $100 deductible per condition
    • Coverage for kittens between the ages of 8 weeks and 1 year

The trial insurance should be activated by the Buyer at least 72 hours prior to taking the kitten home to ensure that coverage is in effect on the day of pickup.
This insurance is provided as an optional benefit. Activation and use of the policy are the responsibility of the Buyer.

    INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE
Buyer may inspect the kitten on the transfer date before signing the Kitten Transfer Acceptance Form.
  • Realistic Expectations
Cats are living beings, and complete sterility is biologically impossible. The presence of conditionally pathogenic bacteria, feline herpesvirus, feline coronavirus, and other microorganisms is common even in outwardly healthy cats. This is considered normal within the feline population.

It is not possible to test for every potential carrier state or guarantee full absence of these agents. Mafiosi Cattery does everything possible to support a strong immune system: high-quality nutrition, a clean environment, and timely vaccinations are the foundation of our kittens’ health.

The process of socialization and education doesn’t end at the cattery — it begins in the new home. The responsibility for further development, both physical and emotional, lies with the new owner.

Mafiosi Cattery remains available for ongoing support — whether it’s days or years after your kitten has joined your family. We are here to help with any questions related to health, care, or adaptation.
  • Returns
At Mafiosi Cattery, we are committed to the well-being of our cats and kittens. We understand that life circumstances can change, but we emphasize that purchasing a kitten is a lifelong responsibility. Our policies reflect our dedication to ensuring our animals are placed in responsible, committed homes.
Within 14 days of the original purchase date, Mafiosi Cattery may, at our sole discretion, accept the return of a cat or kitten, provided it is returned in the same condition as when it was purchased. Deposits for reservations are non-refundable, and any refund of the purchase price balance is considered on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.

We retain the right to determine the suitability of all potential buyers to ensure our kittens are placed in stable, responsible homes. The decision to sell a kitten rests solely with Mafiosi Cattery.

Returns after the initial 14-day period will not be eligible for any refunds, partial or full, as we cannot be responsible for the condition of a cat that has been out of our care for an extended period. Our priority is the welfare of our cats, and we encourage owners to reach out to us in dire situations where no other options are available.

Buyer assumes financial expencies for returning the cat.
